Title: Combination treatment with hyaluronic acid, succinate, and collagen: A novel approach to skin rejuvenation

Abstract

The main function of the skin is to act as a protective barrier. This can be compromised following cosmetic procedures. Hyaluronic acid (HA) combined with succinic acid is an effective post-surgical treatment as it forms a film on the skin, reducing the risk of infection. It also maintains skin hydration and reduces excessive inflammation. Our in vitro studies indicated a role for succinate in stimulating fibroblast proliferation. So to investigate the effect of skin rejuvenation, a study was carried out to determine the effect of HA and succinate on collagen production. 20 healthy volunteers were randomly allocated to 2 groups. Both groups were provided oral collagen to take daily for 2 weeks. One group had a non-cross-linked form of HA combined with succinate injected into the dorsal aspect of both hands. After 2 weeks, greater collagen levels were measured in those having had the injection and taking hydrolyzed collagen, indicating that HA, succnic acid and collagen are all essential for collagen production. Therefore, redermalization with HA combined with succinate and a collagen supplement may lead to greater skin rejuvenation than collagen alone.
