Biography:

Mohsen Naraghi is a double-board certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon who was the winner of the International Award of the American Rhinologic Society (ARS) in 2005. He was also granted the International Award for Excellence in Medical Sciences for the innovation in Clinical Medicine during 2011. He was awarded the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery Honor Award in recognition of his distinguished service on committees, scientific programs, continuing education courses and instruction courses to the Academy in 2015. He was also awarded Committee Excellence Award for his distinguished services on the humanitarian efforts committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery in 2016. Being an active member of both the American Academy of Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, he is also a fellow of the American Rhinology Society. He is the author of more than 300 articles and chapters in Rhinology and Facial Plastic Surgery including a two-volume comprehensive rhinology university textbook. His other title “Facial Plastic Surgery” was awarded as the country’s best academic book of the year in 2007. 

Abstract:

The objectives of the study are: (1) To know different nose and chin parameters contributing to the facial profile harmony. (2) Detect the specific facial imbalance of the nose and chin in any patient who is seeking correction of facial profile. (3) Apply different surgical techniques for chin advancement with least complications and best results. The chin and the nose should be in a prominent position on the face and play very important role in facial profile. The important relationship between the nose and chin may be underestimated by facial plastic surgeons who perform rhinoplasty. In this presentation, different nose and chin parameters contributing to the facial profile harmony will be described. Chin analysis will be discussed according to the most consistent methods. Surgical techniques for chin advancement include alloplastic and osteoplastic advancement. All procedures were performed under general anesthesia with intraoral incision. After exposing the mentum, horizontal osteotomy was performed for chin advancement at the extent which was estimated on preoperative evaluation. The advanced segment was fixed in place with titanium plates or screws. High definition instructive videos of chin advancement procedure will be presented including tips to prevent complications. Genioplasty could be performed in patients with chin problems during, before or after rhinoplasty to make a beautiful profile. Our experience with osteoplasty showed satisfactory results with no significant complication.
